CEP Video Premiere

The College Experience Program had offered two new courses this past semester. The two courses were: Video Production and Journalism. In the Journalism course, the students learned how to be reporters and report stories they've seen or heard about. They also learned very valuable interviewing skills. The Journalism class took many different field trips. They went to News Channel 13 as well as WMHT. Journalism is fun I am learning a lot about different topics and I learned about cue cards.

The other class is Video Production. This class takes all the videos that are made by the journalism and edits them. The students in this class get a hands on look at how to edit videos. Many of them go out into the field with the Journalism students and record them. Throughout the semester the Video Production students ad Journalism students have been working together to make a CEP Video. This video will highlight the skills that the Journalism students have learned about interviewing and being in front of the camera as well as the Video Production students showcasing their skills behind the camera and their editing skills. The two classes will soon have their big "Hollywood" Movie Premiere!!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Mother's Day!! Remember the Albany Tulip Festival is next weekend!! Come on down for some spring and food!!

WMHT

Today the students in the CEP Journalism class had the opportunity to visit WMHT. The students had to wake up very early to make their tour. Many of them woke up at 6:30am to be at the designated meeting area by 7:00am. The students were more than enthusiastic about going and it seemed like they learned a lot.

Earlier in the month the students in the CEP Journalism class got to visit News Channel 13. Students noticed vast differences between the two stations. For example, News Channel 13 is a commercial broadcast and makes some of their money though the commercials that they advertise. WMHT is a non-for profit organization and focuses strictly on educational programing. They apply for grants from the government, and raise money through fundraisers. Both of these field trips have been very educational and informative. The students in the CEP Journalism class look forward to similar field trips in the future.

Video Production Students Learn iMovie Software

Throughout the Spring 2011 semester, the Video Production students have been meeting in the new Multimedia Macintosh Lab located in the Center for Communications and Interactive Media Building at the College of Saint Rose.

Led by CEP course instructor, Heather Green, students have been learning the basics of video technology as an information medium, specifically focusing on ways in which video is created to achieve its desired effect on an audience.

Various types of video recording tools have been explored in this course, including the Flip video camera and iMovie video editing software.

Several of their completed video projects have been uploaded to YouTube....check it out!
